Sneaky Food (possibly): DiGiorno Ultimate Focaccia Pepperoni
I have mentioned before that DiGiorno pizza was surprisingly okay to eat without Lactaid, since it is made by Kraft and their shredded (and block, and Parmesan) cheese is lactose-free. Strange, but true.
However, recently I bought both the Supreme and Pepperoni Ultimate Focaccia pizzas. I ate a big portion of the Supreme variety without Lactaid, and while I was very, very full, I did not get sick.
A few days later, I made the Pepperoni, ate less, and ended up a little sick. I'm thinking that maybe one of the cheeses (asiago?) wasn't lactose-free. That's the theory, as I couldn't come up with anything else based on the ingredient list. It's very possible that my stomach was just having an off day, but I haven't been sick from food in months.
Anyway, I thought it was worth mentioning. If you're really wanting pepperoni pizza and don't want to bother with Lactaid, I'd just buy DiGiorno's regular version.

I am so glad I read this blog! Pizza was one of those foods that just assumed I'd never be able to eat again (unless I made it myself with Kraft cheese, which I only knew was lactose free because I read your post about it).
Once I saw what you'd written about the DiGiorno, I went out and bought a personal sized pizza and ate it....nothing happened!!
I can have pizza again (lactaid pills don't work for me)! It's fantastic. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the information! I have been loving being able to eat pizza again...haven't had any in about 3-4 years!
I know, it's awesome, isn't it?
It's just too bad about the lactaid I wasted before I realized.
Glad to help!
Lactaid can cause probs for some people. I make my own pizza with shaved pecorino romano cheese (lactose-free) or you can order pizza and tell them to leave off the cheese and then just add your own pecorino romano at home (and stick it back in the oven for 10 minutes).
A recent find of mine: I thought I'd never be able to eat muenster cheese again, but I was wrong. Finlandia "Baby Muenster" cheese is lactose-free (it doesn't advertise it prominently, though--it's in small letters on the nutritional label.) It tastes great and I have been eating it for months now without a problem.
Also Breyers makes a lactose-free real vanilla ice cream. It still bothers some people with digestive issues, but doesn't bother me. You have to add your own toppings though because it ONLY comes in vanilla.
